Jesus spoke strongly to the scribes and Pharisees about hypocrisy in the lives.
This warning applies to all who profess the name of Jesus.
We can easily judge others for their hypocrisy, but the Lord is searching our hearts to see whether we are serving Him from our hearts or only giving Him lip service.
In Matt. 15:9 Jesus quotes Isaiah 29:13 “And in vain they worship me.”
Jesus spoke to the need of their hearts, while they were focused on their outward practising of service to God.
So if we hold precepts of men, such as; “washing our hands before we eat”; more important than having our hearts clean, we are also guilty of the same hypocrisy.
In Mark 7:18-23 Jesus explained that food going into the mouth, dies not defile a person, but the words coming out of the mouth, these can defile the person, because they come out of the heart.
The Holy Spirit calls us to repentance, in James 4:5-12, so that He may give us more grace and lift us up over the power of sin in our lives.
Verse 7 ” Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He will lift you up”.
