1 Peter 4:1 Therefore, since Christ has suffered in the flesh, arm yourselves also with the same purpose, because he who has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin.”
To arm myself with the same purpose….is to change my mindset about taking up the Cross and following Jesus.
The natural mind does not accept nor understand the purpose of the Cross in one’s life. 1 Cor. 2:14

However, to the ones who are willing to repent from their own way of thinking and allow the Holy Spirit to change their attitude towards the way of the cross of Jesus in their life from one of fear and distrust to the attitude Jesus had towards the Cross His Father gave to Him, the purpose of the Cross begins to be revealed to us.

1 Peter 4:13 ” To the degree that you share the sufferings of Christ, keep on rejoicing;

To share in Christ’s sufferings and rejoice, instead of feeling sorry for myself is to know the love of God.

This is the difference from experiencing God is a benevolent Father who is to give me a life that meets my needs and where I am the center of His universe…
To knowing Him as a loving Father who has chosen me and adopted me into His family, where He becomes the center of my world and I simply love Him back.
1 John 4:19 “We love Him because He first loved us.”

This delivers us from a puppy love of feelings to a disciplined love of obedience.

Isaiah 50:4:10 reveals the attitude Jesus had towards the Cross.

Philippines 2:5 – 8 tells us “have this attitude in yourselves which was also in Christ Jesus”

So to truly become His disciple it must begin with changing my attitude towards sharing in the fellowship of His sufferings, from one of self-pity to an attitude of Joy”.
