In Matthew 16:24-28 and Mark 8:34-38 Jesus spoke about the cost of being His disciple.

Vs 34 “Whoever desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me.”

Christians often speak of the cost of discipleship but Jesus went on to speak of the cost of NOT taking up our cross and following Him.

Vs 36 “For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul?”

This exchange of the life of the Holy Spirit within us, for some earthly thing, is the greatest cost a human could ever pay for anything on the earth.

We see this warning in Hebrews 12:15-17 the Holy Spirit using the example of Esau to us.

Esau, who for one morsel of food sold his birthright to his brother Jacob, is an eternal example if this exchange of the soul.

In Genesis 25:27-34 we can read of this story. Esau being famished when coming in from the field, traded his inheritance in Israel, for a momentary need of food.

So also today, Satan has set up this world as a market place for the souls of men. He offers many earthly things, such as food, drink, and material possessions to trade for our inheritance in Jesus Christ.

Jesus gave a parable to us in Luke 12:13-34 of man who traded his soul for the abundance of his material possessions.

Vs 34 “For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”

We live in a stressed out world, that is addicted to many things, such as comfort foods, drinking, drugs, and many other things to try to ease our worries and fears.

But the Lord Jesus is offering us to come and cast all of our cares at His feet, knowing He cares for us.

1 Peter 5:6-9

“Therefore I say unto you, do not worry about your life..

His offer to us is to live like the raven in our faith towards Him.

Galatians 2:20 Paul testifies that the life he now lives, he lives by faith in the Son of God, who loved him and gave himself for him.

To live a life of complete trust in Jesus Christ, is the cross of Christ in my life.

This is the cross which will crucify the world to me and I to the world.

Galatians 6:14

Have you believed the scriptures in Romans 8:10-17?

” If the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you.”
