Matthew 17 & Mark 9 record the story of Jesus coming down off the Mountain to find His disciples in a predicament.
Their problem was with a demon possessed boy, whom they couldn’t help.
Jesus took this opportunity to deal with their real problem.
“The littleness of their faith” Matthew 17:20
Romans 4 speaks to us of the faith of Abraham, whose faith in God, brought him into a deep friendship with God.
Vs. 17b “even the God, who calls into being that which does not exist.
In hope against hope he believed….
Perhaps you are struggling with sin and find yourself experiencing Romans 7:22-24.
You are joyfully concurring with the law of God in your inner man,
But see a different law in the members of your body making you a slave of sin.
Your heart is crying out, ” O wretched man that I am! Who shall deliver me from the body of this death?
Believe in God, who gives life to the dead, and calls into being that which does not exist.
In hope against hope, you can lift up your voice to God, as the fairer of this little demon possessed boy, did to Jesus, “Lord I believe, help thou mine unbelief.” Mark 9:24
James 2:14 speaks of two different kinds of faith.
1. A dead faith that is useless
This kind of faith even the demons have. They also believe and tremble.. Vs 19
This is a faith which is without love towards my fellowman.
A faith that is full of selfishness..wanting God to meet my needs and most of my wants.
2. This second Faith described to us, is the faith that Abraham had towards God.
Vs 22 ” You see that faith was working with His works, and as a result of the works, faith was perfect.
And he was called the friend of God.
James 4 tells us that our prayers may not be answered because we ask for selfish reasons.
This is like a child who is constantly asking his Dad for candy bars.
When his / her parents want them to eat healthy vegetables etc, the child doesn’t believe it’s parents love them.
But in reality, good parents who love their children, want them to grow up strong and healthy.
So our Father in Heaven wants His children to be strong in our inner man, our spirits, so we can withstand the evil one and overcome all evil in our lives with good.
Will you believe God can make everything He allows in your life to be for your good?
