In Matthew 17:20-21 Jesus tells us that all things are possible to those who believe and the devil is overcome through fasting and prayer.
Isaiah 58 the Lord rebukes Isarel for their motives in fasting and shares with us the fast that is on His heart for us to experience.
The Lord begins by rebuking Israel for fasting for their own selfish desires. Isaiah 58:1-5

Then He shares with us the fast that He has chosen for us to experience and become fellow workers with Him in accomplishing His work in the earth.
Vs 6-10 tells us to loose the bonds of wickedness, undo the heavy burdens, and let the oppressed go free.
In Vs 9 the Lord tells us what this yoke can be, is the pointing of the finger and speaking wickedness.

Have you fasted this fast that God has chosen?
And put away from your own life “The pointing of the finger”?

Secondly the Lord goes on to encourage us to build each other up.
Vs 12 to build up those areas or relationships that have been wasted, breached, and to restore.

Thirdly the Lord has prepared a Sabbath, a place of rest, for His children.
Not a physical day, such as He gave to Israel under the old covenant.
Rather,
Vs 13 a Sabbath of doing our own way, finding our own pleasure, and speaking our own words.

This is the delight of the Lord, His own mouth has spoken it.
Hebrew 3: & 4 tell us in more detail what this Sabbath rest looks like and how it is to be lived out in our life.
“Today, if you hear His voice, harden not your heart.”
