  • Summary: If you have only a form of godliness, you don’t have real power against the forces of evil (I Timothy 4:1-8).
  • Quote: The deadliest form of evil to beware of is that which has the appearance of good (II Corinthians 11:14-15).
  • Quote: The deception of a demonic doctrine is that it appears to lead you toward holiness, but eventually leads you astray.
  • Quote: The Devil is a smart enemy. Demon-possession is repulsive. Demon-teaching, however, is attractive to the flesh; it tickles the ear.
  • Quote: Working out in the gym will benefit you only in this life, because a fit body and an unhealthy body will return to the same dust they came from. True godliness is the best fitness program, because it will profit you in this life and the next (I Timothy 4:8).
  • Quote: What the Serpent offered Adam and Eve was evil in the appearance of godliness — this is the original “doctrine of demons”.
  • Quote: The truth spoken with a lying motive behind it, is still a lie! And the Devil, as the father of all lies, is a master at this.
  • Quote: There is a “being like God” that will kill you — it’s in being like Him in knowing good and evil without living in complete submission and obedience to Him (Genesis 3:4,5,22).
  • Quote: The Devil’s deception is to present a way to “godliness” that does not involve taking up your cross daily and still allows you to live pleasing your Self. If you believe his lie, you’ll end up with a form of godliness, but lacking real power against him (II Timothy 3:1,5). It’s like trying to win a fight with a paper sword.
  • Quote: When you think about the “difficult times that will come” do you think about persecution and tribulation? Or do you think about what the Bible calls “difficult times” — things like people holding to a form of godliness without real power (II Timothy 3:1-5)?
  • Quote: Most so-called Christians are more afraid of facing death for their faith, than they are of continuing to live on this earth deceived by the form of godliness without its power. I am more afraid of the latter.
  • Quote: Even the apostle Paul, who was used by God to write Scripture, said that he crucified his flesh, lest after having preached to others, he himself be disqualified.
  • Quote: You cannot try to earn godliness by offering God something (like money, Bible study, prayer and fasting, faithful church membership, etc.) other than the sacrifice He desires (your body as a living sacrifice – Romans 12:1).
  • Quote: God will not accept a “replacement sacrifice”. There is only one sacrifice that He accepts now — the perfect sacrifice of His Son Jesus. So, you must be united with Jesus in His death in order to be accepted by God (Colossians 2:20).
  • Quote: “Just as you trusted Christ to save you, trust Him, too, for each day’s problems; live in vital union with Him” (Colossians 2:6 TLB).
  • Let Me Hide Myself in Thee:
Not the labor of my hands can fulfill Thy law’s demands
Could my zeal no respite know, could my tears forever flow
All for sin could not atone; Thou must save, and Thou alone

Nothing in my hand I bring, simply to the cross I cling
Naked, come to Thee for dress; helpless look to Thee for grace
Foul, I to the fountain fly; wash me, Savior, or I die.

Rock of Ages, cleft for me, let me hide myself in Thee.
